Sterling has a brother named Phin. After an argument when Phin runs into the swamp near their Louisiana town, a girl named Lenora May appears from the swamp and claims to be Sterling's sister. No one remembers Phin except Lenora May and she misses him horribly. Even their mother accepts Lenora May as her daughter.
The swamp has been the stuff of spooky legends and people around town avoid it if possible. Sterling starts talking with Heath, another student at her school, and learns his best friend disappeared into the swamp as well. And, like Phinn, everyone else in town has forgotten about him. Sterling and Heath become close trying to solve the mystery of the swamp and what happened to those missing. This is a YA novel with lots of appeal, a cross between contemporary fiction and the supernatural.
