Book Review: Armada by Ernest Cline

This coming of age story, like Cline's book Ready Player One, is full of references to video games and pop culture. Zack Lightman loves video games and even works at a game store where the owner is generous with gear and playing time.

Zack's favorite game is Armada, where players fend off aliens to protect the earth. With a few anger issues, which he blames on growing up without a father since his died when he was small, Zack is trying to get through high school. One day, gazing out the window, he is positive he saw a flying saucer, just like the ones in his game. A few days later, a saucer lands at his high school and he is recruited to defend the earth for real. Hit with one surprise after another, Zack has to decide who to trust and what's real in this adventure. Highly recommended for fans of Ready Player One and The Leveller (by Julia Durango).
